Leeds United’s outstanding 100% start to the Championship season has seen them become the bookies’ favourites for the title in England’s second division. Marco Bielsa’s famed coaching has paid instant dividends and the Whites are 5.50 to finish in top spot.
Tipbet’s odds for promotion show that Swansea City (4.55) have a good chance of bouncing straight back up to the top division by finishing in the top two or successfully navigating the play-offs. The Championship is notoriously difficult to tackle, though, and as the odds below display there are plenty of contenders in what will be a congested battle for the top six.
The Swans have started their campaign excellently and two wins over Sheffield United and Preston North End mean that they are in fourth place and quickly getting used to the methods of Graham Potter, who replaced Carlos Carvalhal after relegation.
Their next game is at St Andrew’s on Friday night against Birmingham City, who finished 19th last season and missed relegation to League One by just five points. They are in the same position in 2018/19 after two games; a promising opening 1-1 draw with Norwich City was followed by a defeat to Middlesbrough and Garry Monk, who took charge in March, needs his squad’s fortunes to turn around quickly if they are hope for any more than a mid-table finish.
The Blues have made five signings over the summer, but nothing has been done to address last season’s lack of goals – they scored 38 in 42 matches – and that is clearly the area of concern heading into Friday’s meeting with Swansea.
Tipbet, therefore, have the visitors at 2.50 to leave with all three points and keep their early promotion charge going. Birmingham are six competitive matches unbeaten at home, though, so a win for them (2.95) cannot be discounted. They are also 2.15 to score the match’s first goal, and 1.50 to avoid defeat with Double Chance.
