The Community Shield is the traditional curtain-raiser to the English season, with the winners of the Premier League taking on the FA Cup holders at Wembley. Manchester City set the league alight last season as they became the first side to smash the 100-point barrier to finish 19 points clear of Manchester United. Their aim now is to be the first team to retain the trophy in nine seasons, with the three previous champions all having disappointing follow-up campaigns.

Pep Guardiola will be trying to ensure that his squad to not take their foot off the gas at all, though after missing out on Jorginho – who joined Sunday’s opponents Chelsea – the Spaniard has added just Riyad Mahrez. His squad is still the deepest in the division by some distance and, as the season bets at Tipbet display, they are the team to beat.

Friendly results in pre-season have been mixed for City, with losses to Borussia Dortmund and Liverpool followed by a win over Bayern Munich, but they will have some of their starting players back in the Community Shield after their World Cup exertions – Sergio Aguero has returned to training and could get some game time.

Chelsea are still getting to grips with Maurizio Sarri’s methods after the Italian took over earlier this month, and City offer their biggest test before they head to Huddersfield Town next Saturday for the first match of the Premier League season. Sarri is also missing some of his key players and the Community Shield is likely to come too soon for World Cup winner N’Golo Kante, though midfield is a particularly strong area of the pitch for the Londoners.

Tipbet have 96 odds markets for the game and City are strong favourites at 2.00 to win the game in normal time. A draw – currently at 3.45 – would see the fixture head straight to a penalty shootout. The Community Shield is the ideal fixture to try out’s Cash Out system, which now has three ways to claim winnings before the end of play – read more here.
