Roger Federer and Rafael Nadal have both advanced to the quarter-finals of the Australian Open.
They are both among the pre-tournament favourites and, with Andy Murray out of the tournament through injury and Novak Djokovic just returning from a spell out, will be confident of appearing in Sunday’s final.
Nadal overcame Diego Schwartzman in four sets 6-3, 7-7 (4-7), 6-3, 6-3, with the Spaniard dropping his first set of the competition against the Argentine. He faces Marin Čilić of Croatia at the Rod Laver Arena on Tuesday.
Federer, meanwhile, beat Márton Fucsovics in straight-sets to mean that he will play Tomáš Berdych in the early hours of Wednesday.
The 36-year-old Swiss is the reigning Australian Open champion and is looking for his sixth title down under.
