Our partner club Fortuna Düsseldorf produced a stunning comeback on Sunday afternoon to beat Nürnberg 3-2 at the Max-Morlock-Stadion and claim the 2. Bundesliga title.
The home side, who needed just a point to win the title themselves, took an early two-goal advantage though Georg Margreitter and Tim Leibold and looked set to be the side celebrating at full-time.
However, Fortuna responded brilliantly through Takashi Usami and Niko Gießelmann to set up a grandstand finish.
Both teams pushed for a winner, but it was not until the 91st minute that the visitors could find a breakthrough, with Kaan Ayhan finding the net to send the visitors to the Bundesliga as champions.
The result means that Fortuna finished their season with an impressive 63 points from 34 matches – three points clear of Nürnberg – so they will be confident of a strong showing in the top-tier.
Elsewhere, Holstein Kiel beat Eintracht Braunschweig 6-2 to relegate their opponents, and they will face Wolfsburg in a two-legged promotion play-off tie to see if they can join Düsseldorf and Nürnberg.
