A visit to Leicester City would ordinarily be considered a tricky game for any of the Premier League’s top sides, but with Manchester City’s current form it is hard to envisage them losing in the Carabao Cup quarter-final. Pep Guardiola will be expecting to win multiple pieces of silverware by the time the season is done, having finished third in the league in his maiden campaign, and the first of those on offer is the EFL Cup, with the final taking place on 25th February.

Having won 16 times in a row – a Premier League record – with their latest steamrolling victory over Tottenham Hotspur at the weekend, it is probable that Guardiola will rest key men ahead of a busy festive schedule. Claudio Bravo, for one, may get a game in place of the impressive Ederson having featured against both West Bromwich Albion and Wolverhampton Wanderers in the preceding rounds. Any substantial change in personnel would likely make City more vulnerable, though given the roster at the Spanish manager’s disposal it is unlikely to be short of stardust.

The Foxes, meanwhile, will view this as their best opportunity to win a trophy since their shock 2015/16 Premier League triumph. Leicester have had a turbulent season and a half since then, but under Claude Puel they look like finally having some much-needed stability. Before last weekend’s 3-0 defeat to strugglers Crystal Palace, the Frenchman had recorded four consecutive wins. The hosts’ chances of advancing to the semi-finals are boosted by the fact that the League Cup has one-off knockout games apart from the two-legged semis, so extra-time and penalties are both possibilities; indeed, Manchester City needed both to knock out Wolves in the last round.
