Liverpool’s 3-3 draw with Sevilla in midweek highlighted the issues that exist with Jurgen Klopp’s squad. Their attack is one of the most lethal in the Premier League, but it is all too often let down by a poor defensive unit that is liable to ship goals. This is displayed in the fact that the Reds have the worst record at the back in the top seven, with 17 conceded in 12 games.
This makes a Premier League title challenge appear most unlikely, and Liverpool are already 12 points off leaders Manchester City and in fifth place. A top four place at the end of the campaign is also far from guaranteed and there is just a three-point gap between third and seventh currently.
The Premier League table ahead of matchday 13
However, Chelsea will not be expecting an easy game – since their 4-1 defeat to Tottenham Hotspur at the end of October, Liverpool have gone five unbeaten and had kept three clean sheets in four prior to the Sevilla match.
The Londoners themselves have been in very strong form after a patchy start to the new season. Their Halloween defeat to Roma in the Champions League remains their only loss since mid-October; a run of results that has seen them into third in the league, behind the two Manchester clubs and nine points away from first. This is on top of advancing in Europe with a game to spare.
One player that could hold the key to a result is Mo Salah. The Egyptian struggled for game time in his two seasons at Chelsea, with two loan spells. He was then sold to Roma before Klopp brought him back to England in the summer for an initial €42m. The winger has been in sublime form and with nine goals is the league’s top scorer ahead of the likes of Sergio Aguero and Harry Kane.
Liverpool have not lost at Anfield since April, but defeat could see them go as low as seventh with even Burnley overtaking them. Tipbet, as always, have a huge set of markets to choose from. Liverpool’s home form means that they are rated as favourites, and they are offered at 2.10 to get their seventh league win. Chelsea are likely to be solid, however, so an away win (3.45) or draw (3.65) should not be discounted whatsoever. There are many other selections available.
