Tipbet have secured another exciting sponsorship in Greece by agreeing a deal with KAE Aris Thessaloniki until the end of the 2017/18 season. The basketball club are one of the most traditional in the country and play in the top-tier Greek Basket League.

The agreement was secured before the derby against PAOK yesterday (21st March) with the Thessaloniki sides meeting at Aris’ home arena, the Alexandreio Melathron Nick Galis Hall, in the city.

The clash was something of a classic with each side winning two of the quarters. PAOK started strongly and took the first 21-13, before Aris got back into the tie to make it 36-37 by the halfway point.

This pattern continued all the way to the final whistle with PAOK coming out on top 66-65 in a result that could genuinely have gone either way. The result leaves Aris in 11th with seven rounds of games to play in the regular season left.

The Yellow and Blacks have a rich heritage, with the basketball team of Aris Thessaloniki BC being founded in 1922; eight years after the club itself was established. They have gone on to win the Greek League 10 times and eight Greek Cups, with 27 titles overall.

In Europe, the late 80s and early 90s were a golden period for Aris and they finished an impressive 3rd place in the EuroLeague – the elite Europe-wide competition for clubs – in 1989, as well as reaching the Final Four stage on three occasions.

Last season was very close to being a silverware-winning one for Tipbet’s newest partner as they finished second in the Greek Basketball Cup, losing 68-59 to Panathinaikos in the final having beaten Kymis Seajets and AEK on the way. Aris ultimately finished fourth in the Greek Basket League in 2016/17, which brought with it Champions League qualification.

The Alexandreio Melathron Nick Galis Hall is renowned for its raucous home support, with up to 6000 fans able to attend with temporary seating. Following a renovation in 2015, it is among the most modern indoor sports arenas in Greece. The sponsorship agreement will see extensive advertising of the betting company installed. This includes LED adverts courtside as well as a presence in the club’s museum and inside of the ground.

The agreement between the two parties further enhances Tipbet’s presence in Greece following the award of a license in the country. In addition, the two football teams PAS Giannina and Apollon Pontou FC, among other clubs, have already signed co-operation, sponsorships or sports betting partner agreements.
