Tipbet’s partner club Fortuna Dusseldorf continue their 2. Bundesliga campaign at home to 1. FC Kaiserslautern on Saturday afternoon, as they seek to build on their solid start. Heading into matchday three they have four points and will be happy with being unbeaten having faced real quality so far.
They started at home to Eintracht Braunschweig, who narrowly missed out on promotion last season and are genuine contenders for the title. This was followed up by a 2-0 win at Erzgebirge Aue and a victory in extra-time over Arminia Bielefeld in the DFB-Pokal to give an early indication that the inconsistent results in 2016/17 are well and truly a thing of the past. Indeed, three points for Friedhelm Funkel’s men would see them keep pressure on the leaders Nuremberg, Union Berlin and Bielefeld and, with the top two playing each other, see them overtake at least one of them.
Saturday’s opponents, in contrast, have had a weak start in the league and have just a single point, leaving them in 14th. That is one position below where they finished last season and unless they can turn around their start, then they could easily be dragged into a relegation scrap. This is a disappointment considering that during 2012 and 2015 they didn’t finish below fourth and missed out on a Bundesliga place by losing to Hoffenheim, who are now in the Champions League.
