With the 2018 World Cup in Russia just two weeks away, the highest level of club football still remaining is Major League Soccer in the United States of America. The USA did not qualify for the Russian finals, but the next month will be a crucial period for the clubs that are targeting a place in the end-of-season knockout round.
The top two sides from the Eastern and Western Conference each advance to the Conference semi-finals, with the four clubs below them all given a chance to fight for the MLS Cup in the play-offs a round earlier. Currently Atlanta top the Eastern Conference with 25 points from 12 games, which is also enough to see them head the overall table.
This is in stark contrast to last season when United finished fourth and were then eliminated by Columbus Crew on penalties in the first knockout round. With eight wins from 12, they are well on the way to finishing in the top two places in what is just their second MLS season.
Gerardo Martino’s side are in need of three points when they visit New England Revolution, with two of their three defeats taking place in May.
New England Revolution are one of the sides that featured in the inaugural Major League Soccer season, though they have never claimed the MLS Cup – being runners up five times. Their recent form has been mixed, with just two wins in their past seven to leave them sixth in the Eastern Conference.
Tipbet has top odds for the MLS, including season bets that have Atlanta as 6.50 favourites. For Thursday’s match, the match winner markets are extremely close and difficult to predict with United slight favourites at 2.45 despite being away from home. Three points for New England (2.55) could see them overtake Orlando City into fifth and consolidate their play-off place.
