After seeing it's dreams of championship gold shattered last week, Naples now even has to fight for the second rank in the Serie A. For AS Rome is still breathing down it's neck. An upset loss against Atalanta Bergamo could be disastrous!

Naples still has work to do

Not too long ago, it looked as if Naples would finish this season at least on rank two and as if they even could secure the first "scudetto" after the "golden years" (1987 to 1990). These golden years marked the era in which Maradona became the single greatest icon of the club, by leading the club from relative obscurity to two league championships, one national cup and even the UEFA cup. The myth of Maradona and the most successful years of SSC Naples go hand in hand with each other.

The third league championship seemed in reach. But then it all went awry against Juventus Turin. And while the Italian record champions remained consistent enough to claim the fifth league championship in a row, Naples found itself thrown off the track and is now struggling to even secure rank number two. The problem lately was how vastly different Naples performed in away games. Whereas they are pretty much unbeatable at home, where they haven't lost a single game and claimed 45 of 51 possible points, they slipped more than once in away games. All the latest away games have been lost. And with the pursuers AS Rome being as strong as they are, the pressure is real for Naples to secure the second place and with it the direct participation in the Champions League.

Atalanta Bergamo: an unknown quantity?

Whereas Naples is the strongest home team in the entire Serie A, Atalanta Bergamo is the weakest away team. A meager eleven goals is all they ever scored so far in this season, when on other turfs. They only won two of their away games (one, ironically enough, against AS Rome). However, while Naples has all kinds of pressure, Bergamo doesn't. They successfully escaped the relegation struggle and have nothing to gain anymore. Other than maybe a few ranks. And these "neither here, nor there" teams are always a bit of an unknown quantity in the last stages of a season. And especially if it was a season, where they had to hang on for dear life (Like Atalanta Bergamo has to do basically every year), they can become quite a wild card, as soon as they get to play for fun and have their season pretty much wrapped up as a success. Also Bergamo is a dangerous squad to play against. How dangerous? Well, 14 red cards dangerous! Should they get one other red card, they would tie the all-time record of Meddina Calcio from 2006/07.

This is what the odds at Tipbet look like

The Tipbet odds couldn't be more lopsided in favor of the home powerhouses. They are 1.12 – 8.00 – 17.50. Wild card element or not, it is nearly impossible to back Bergamo in this one. Too pronounced is the home dominance of Naples and to glaring is the away weakness of Atalanta Bergamo. What is looking far more interesting instead is the side bet on goals in the first half time. Naples tends to score early. No other team scored as many goals in the first half as Naples did. So at Tipbet odds of 1.50 over 1.5 goals in the first half is the bet to make!
