Tottenham Hotspur’s first defeat in seven games to West Ham last week paved the way for Chelsea to win the Premier League title for the second time in three years. The west Londoners duly responded by relegating Middlesbrough after beating them 3-0.

With three matches left to play, the Blues are seven points clear and victory over West Bromwich Albion on Friday night will see them as champions; this is a major achievement considering that in their title defence last season they finished 10th. This success has been at least partly down to a lack of European matches, giving Antonio Conte time to implement and polish his 3-4-3 formation that he has used to excellent effect.

The Italian’s first year in England could yet end with the Double – his side face Arsenal at Wembley later this month in the FA Cup and should be considered favourites. He will still need to majorly enhance his squad in the close season, increasing the depth so that they can compete in the Champions League, whilst replacing the departing John Terry and, possibly, Diego Costa, who is rumoured to be intrigued by a move to China. Romelu Lukaku – the Belgian Everton striker sold when Jose Mourinho was in charge – has been linked with a return to the club, having scored 24 times this season for the Toffees – the division’s most.

West Brom, meanwhile, have had a very strong campaign themselves. They are eighth, which is a fabulous achievement by Tony Pulis, and lead a mini group of sides that find themselves below the consistent top seven. The Baggies’ 45 points is already more than they got in all of last season; their early season points gathering has allowed them to be winless in six and still retain their berth.

With this taken into account, it is hard to see them causing too many problems for a Chelsea side that have so much at stake. Tipbet have 100 markets for this game, with Chelsea – who have won four of their last five games – 1.40 favourites to win. That would clinch the title, and even a draw (4.95) would be enough if Spurs fail to beat Manchester United on Sunday. Albion are at 8.75 to win and could do with three points as they seek to consolidate eighth place.
